The power of labeling people

Terrorist, Liberal, Conservative, Socialist and Islamist are common words we can find in newspapers headlines.

Labeling people is normal in our life especially by the Media. I think people tend to label others because we love to judge other people. Sometimes it is used because it is easy to describe or classify something/someone.

When someone says a person is Liberal, automatically will think that person favours change in political and social matters and dont like to be restricted. While terrorist, is a person who cause trouble, disaster and chaos to the public.

Labeling people influence others perception. It makes a bad product looks good and good looks bad. If you use wrong label, ones feeling might hurt.

Why somone use wrong label? The reason can be with intention or without intention. Someone might use it in improper way because he does not understand the real meaning of the label used.

That is what I think about labeling and the power of labeling.

how language influences perception can be described as follows:

a baby was found dead on the floor. the newspaper headlines can be either [mother bashed her baby...] or [mother dropped her baby..].

anyway, similarly, why we should keep teaching malay to our children. ingatlah, bahasa jiwa bangsa..

labelling can be used to generalise people. test:
what comes to your mind

american = ignorant
malaysian = asian
british = ?
japanese = modern, high tech..

and do the rest..
