UK hospitals to offer Muslim gowns

Menarik. Di sebalik beberapa isu ttg aurat dikalangan pengamal perubatan yang pernah aku dengar, ada pula usaha untuk memenuhi keperluan umat islam di UK. Malaysia bila pula? Kata negara Islam, memperjuangkan Islam Hadhari.

Two hospitals in northwestern England will provide head-to-toe gowns for Muslim women patients, officials said on Tuesday, according to The Washington Post.

The burqa-style gown will be available from November 1 for all patients served by the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs two hospitals; the Royal Preston and the Chorley and South Ribble.

The two hospitals are believed to be the first in Britain to offer the full-cover gown.

Muslim women in the West, whose religion and culture require them to be covered, have long complained of having to wear the revealing gowns during outpatient procedures.

"I noticed a gap in the market and thought that it would be great if there was a gown that helped to preserve a patient's modesty," said Karen Jacob, linen services manager for the trust, who designed the head-to-toe gown.

Jacob said the gown could be adjusted to show women’s face, or expose only a strip near the eyes.

Islam orders women to cover their body to protect them from the eyes of men outside their family and preserve their dignity and honor.

In the Qur’an, Allah (SWT) instructs his followers on how to behave towards each other by saying in Surat An-Nur that all Muslim men and women should “lower the gaze”.
