Hayya bil arabiyyah

Since moving to new house in Bayswater, I was extremely busy. I took an intensive Arabic course in Ibn Jabal Institute. The course was really good and the teacher is funny. It makes learning arabic really fun. The good thing about this course is, the notes was arranged in a really systematic way. Therefore I can easily understand what was taught in the class. I found that arabic is an interesting language. It works like mathematics, i.e formulaic. If you put a preposition before a noun, the word ending sign will change. Same thing happen for other kind of words.

Personally, I find the course is really challenging. Despite have to spend 4 hours a day attending classes, we are expected to spend another 4 hours to memorise the vocab, do homework and some reading. At this stage I thin k I can read and understand the arabic structure. Alhamdulillah, I am very glad. However I need to work out more on the vocab and the exercises to strengthen my understanding.

I would like to share an inspiring piece of advice from my Arabic teacher yesterday. He said, he know most of the students in the class took the course because they want to understand the Quran. Therefore he asked us to purify our intention learning arabic. He also reminds us about the hadith which means something like 'when His servant walks towards Him, Allah will run towards him (closer)'. So treat every effort (doing homework, memorising vocab and attending class) in understanding the arabic to understand the Quran as an act of worship. In fact it is a worship if the intention is correct. This is a babystep toward Allah. He also reminded us to spend an hour on arabic everyday. By having the knowledge about the grammar and vocab, inshallah, one day everyone will be able to read and understand the Quran without having to look at the translation.

I hope I can maintain my good work and be able to understand the Quran wthout referring the translation. Inshallah I will pursue level 2 part-time during next academic year.
